Redesigning Creatures

A LOT of creatures have been getting redesigned lately... What's going on!?

Today on Blogs and Vlogs I want to discuss what's been going on with the creatures.

A lot of things have been redesigned in preparations for future games and prototypes.


Recently.... The number of 3D prototypes have also increased.




I'm also experimenting with a TON of animations and creatures. This led to a lot of things getting redesigned.

More importantly I'm getting a bunch of strange ideas for new games AND mixed genres.


And also horror games oddly enough.... As in like actual horror games like Resident Evil and Silent Hill.




At the same time I don’t really wanna know if I wanna make a game that’ll hit you really hard in the feels or legitimately scare you… But at the same time there’s that demon lurking deep inside me that wants to create a horror game where everything is in debris...

And you wouldn’t be chased by mascot horror characters or monsters... Oh no. You would be chased by literal futuristic entities that could actually kill you. Terrifying amalgamations… Like distorted cartoony silent hill monsters that are creepy and uncanny to look at.

I don't have any concepts to post on that yet but it's quite interesting for me to think about...


And no I'm generally not kidding about this I mentioned how I've mentioned how I specifically designed a bunch of these guys to look like they can kill you now... HAHA



So does this mean the series is going to take a more dark turn?...

Nah but it's something interesting to keep in mind.

I will say it looks like a bunch of my work now has lore building going on... Which is pretty cool!


Next I want to specifically explain why I redid all of these creatures...


Starting off with the Dreadful Magician.


Simply put I wanted to give this guy more of a personality...

There's also a creature coming later down the line that acts as a counterpart to this one and I've teased it for a while.

I also feel like his old design was overused and has become kind of stale...

You can tell that he's depressed and gets very angry easily now.


That being said I also don't want him to look like he's evil... Just kind of rough...



Next Gettit and Widdget.


Gettit was redesigned to look more whimsical.

I also think it's incredibly funny looking and charming in my personal opinion.

I love the idea of it wanting to be an acrobat at the circus.

Unlike Widdget its personality would be very whimsical and kind.

Despite its large size it isn't very powerful at all, it was designed to be weird and whimsical.


Widdget was slightly altered to be simpler.

I altered his stomach to be more simple.

First off I wanted to apologize if you didn't like his personality in MENUTOWN.

When he returns I'll make sure he's a bit more friendly but retain his personality, he does indeed look like a very polite fellow.

I would say he wants to be a stage performer or stand up comedian... However despite his crazy personality I would not say he really wants to hurt anyone.


Next up is Pillarbug.

I want people to look at this guy and love him! haha

The creature is also actually harmless as in universe it’s a gentle giant…

Fun fact: I really want to give Pillarbug a design that is NOT restricted by arachnophobia rules… That’s the reason why it’s walking animation is very minimalistic. I always WANTED to give it a spider-like crawling animation, but I feel like that would freak people out.

The reason why I redesigned him to look like this is because I want people to like him as he IS a harmless creature.

It CAN attack but only if it's anger or disturbed.

It's also actually a giant insect with a giant shell, which is pretty cool.



Next Talioshroom.

This design was simplified for a number of reasons...

- It no longer has a pre-form which was scrapped.

- It did not translate into a low poly N64 model well.

- I need a simpler design to make it work for a bunch of reasons behind the scenes.


I also made it more friend-shaped like Pillarbug, this is a cute tall harmless creature.

That being said I won't include some of these as enemies, but as NPCs instead so you don't have to hurt them.

(There will be some exceptions though like Pillarbug as they can have alternate designs that are more threatening.)


And finally... Tumblyo.

Tumblyo mainly looks like this because I needed more battling monsters...

And no, despite the violent image shown earlier...

It is NOT aggressive, it just doesn't like to be bothered when it's resting.


However I want it to be seen more as a wild animal that lurks in the desert.

I hope you don't get the impression because of this that it's going to be very evil...

However you will be fighting it a couple of times.
